Cove and Altens Community Council

Web Accessibility Statement

Last updated: 19-04-21

We are committed to making the Cove Bay website available to all users, including those with disabilities. As part of this commitment, we are continually improving our website to ensure we provide equal access to all of our users.

General

Cove Bay Community Council has invested a significant amount of resources to help ensure that our website is made easier to use and more accessible to people with special needs, including those with visual, hearing, cognitive and motor impairments. We are updating our site regularly to make it as accessible as possible.

Accessibility

This website makes available the UserWay Website Accessibility Widget that is powered by a dedicated accessibility server. The software allows this website to improve its compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0).

Our team also uses tools such as, WAVE by WebAIM, Web Accessibility by Monsido, and other colour contrast analyzers to ensure the best experience possible for all visitors.

The site is being designed to meet Level AA Success Criteria of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 to the greatest extent feasible.

Enabling the Accessibility Menu

The accessibility menu can be enabled by clicking the accessibility menu icon that appears at the right hand side of each page. After triggering the accessibility menu, please wait a moment for the accessibility menu to load in its entirety.

Screen readers

This website can be read using a screen reader.

Accessing PDFs

Many documents on this website are provided as PDF (Portable Document Format) files. Adobe Reader is required to read these – this is free software which can be downloaded from Adobe’s website.

In most cases, the file size is shown immediately after the link to give an indication of how long the document will take to download.

Current versions of Adobe Reader have a built-in text to speech function which enables PDF documents to be read aloud. Visit the Adobe website for more details.

If you have trouble reading the PDFs on this website, you can use a tool such as DocsPal to convert the PDF to a more accessible file format.

Disclaimer

Cove Bay Community Council continues its efforts to constantly improve the accessibility of its site and services in the belief that it is our collective moral obligation to allow seamless, accessible and unhindered use also for those of us with disabilities.

Despite our efforts to make all pages and content fully accessible, some content may not have yet been fully adapted to the strictest accessibility standards. This may be a result of not having found or identified the most appropriate technological solution.

We make reasonable efforts to ensure that PDF files posted on our website are accessible.

Work to Do

We are in the process of improving our Alternative Text (Alt Text) for images so that only images that present valuable information include meaningful alternative text for screen reader users; any decorative images will not include alt text.

We’re Here For You

If you are experiencing difficulty with any content, require assistance with any part of our website, or would like to request any information in an accessible alternative format, please contact us by e-mail at [email protected] and we will be happy to assist.
